2019 Election: Agbaje Promises To Allocate 50 Per Cent of Budget on Education

Ahead of the 2019 governorship election, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Mr Jimi Agbaje, has made promise to put 50 per cent of the budget to the education sector, if he is voted as the governor of Lagos.

He affirmed this at the Lagos Business School, Lekki, where he delivered a paper titled, ‘The transformation of Lagos: Education as anchor, the big idea’.

He explained that he will design a means to get all the state’s MDAs to give out larger portions of their budgets to “the education ecosystem and value chain.”

Abaje said, “I will, as governor of Lagos State, if necessary, be prepared to spend as much as 50 per cent of our annual budget on education, the education ecosystem and the education value chain.

“I will bet the future of Lagos State on an elaborate education and skills development value proposition; I will create an education-driven economy.”

He added, “We do not have a choice. Lagos State’s education focus will be significantly about technology. We will partner the best providers globally. The big idea is about the rejuvenation of the inner city, urban redevelopment and securing the long-term future of Lagos State.”
