The ninth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is scheduled to commence on Thursday, May 18, 2023, with an event called ‘Opening Night and Cultural Day.’ This event marks the official beginning of the series of activities leading up to the award night on Saturday, May 20.
According to Busola Tejumola, the Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice Nigeria, this year’s AMVCA aims to elevate the standards of recognition and reward for talent in the African film and television industry.
In a statement, she mentioned that the previous edition featured eight days of activities before the award night. This year, they have chosen to maintain the momentum by bringing back all the activities, condensed into three days, The Punch reports.
Tejumola further stated that the three-day extravaganza will commence with the ‘Opening Night and Cultural Day,’ a vibrant celebration of African culture and diversity.
This will be followed by the ‘Runway Show and Nominee Gala’ on May 19.
The winners of the runway competition will have the opportunity to receive cash prizes and collaborate with Pepsi, one of the brands for which they will showcase innovative designs on the runway.
The festivities will culminate with the award night on May 20.
The ninth AMVCA will reintroduce the popular category of ‘Best Online Social Content Creator’ and introduce two new categories: ‘Best Original Telenovela’ and ‘Best Unscripted Original.’
As one of the most prestigious events in the entertainment industry, the award show will be broadcasted live on May 20 across all Africa Magic channels.
