The National Population Commission (NPC) has completed its preparations for the upcoming 2023 population and housing census and is now awaiting instructions from President Bola Tinubu to initiate the process.
Clifford Zirra, the NPC Federal Commissioner in Adamawa, shared this information during an interactive session with media executives in Yola.
Zirra highlighted the importance of the census as a pivotal exercise that shapes the nation’s future by providing accurate population data essential for effective planning and development.
Zirra expressed President Tinubu’s satisfaction with the commission’s achievements thus far.
He emphasized that the collected data would serve as the foundation for policy formulation, resource allocation, and the implementation of various socio-economic programs.
He further explained that the decision by the Federal Government to postpone the census was welcomed by the commission, as it allowed the new administration to contribute to the census process.
This delay also provided the opportunity for the commission to refine its processes for the first-ever digital census.
Zirra outlined the commission’s comprehensive preparations, including Enumeration Area Demarcation, pre-tests, trial census, staff training, and the establishment of nationwide ICT infrastructure.
Alhaji Abubakar Hamma-Adama, the Director of NPC in the state, emphasized the importance of strong publicity and public awareness for the success of the census, and he appreciated the collaborative efforts between the commission and media organizations in the state.
