Infectious disease bill will go through public hearing – Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila

Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representative, Femi Gbajabiamila has disclosed that the “Infectious disease bill” he is sponsoring alongside Chairman of the House Committee on Health Institutions Pascal Obi and Chairman of the House Committee on Health services Tanko Sanunu, will go through public hearing.

The bill had ignited controversy in the last few days as some alleged that the “attempt to hurriedly pass the bill lends credence to rising public concerns and conspiracy theories on social media locally and internationally that the House of the Representatives is acting insensitively under the ‘dark influence’ of some global vaccine players with undeclared interest.”

However speaking during the plenary at the lower chamber of the National Assembly in Abuja on Tuesday May 5, Gbajabiamila disagreed with those who condemned the timing of the bill.

He also insisted that this is the right time to pass the bill which speedily passed through the first and second readings on Tuesday last week.
