Several studies confirm that vigorous sex can take the place of regular fitness exercise. Or put in another way, there are vigorous sex positions that are fitness exercises in themselves.

If you engage in a sexual activity long enough to pant and sweat profusely – then you have not only engaged in a fat-burning exercise, you have engaged in a fitness exercise that could serve the purpose of gyms. Great sex positions stretch your endurance limits, and they could become a good replacement for time in the gym.

Let’s examine a few sex positions that serve a great workout purpose in the bedroom or simply put, sexercise workouts for couples:

Standing sex splits

Are you aware that you could engage in great sex while standing face-to-face with your partner with your bodies touching? You do this by lifting one of the legs of your partner into the air – holding it in place in the crook of your elbow or placing it on your shoulder if your partner can endure it. Engaging in sex while standing builds your leg muscles. The only issue however is that it may not be convenient for chubby ladies, and it may not be too suitable for a man with a short instrument.

Cross lotus

The Lotus is the sitting position used in yoga practice. Here yogis sit with their legs crossed or folded into each other before them. By sitting with your legs in the lotus position, you can have your partner sit on your groin in the same position with their legs wrapped behind your back. You may not be able to thrust so well in this position, but you can continually grind into each other while exploring with your hands until you feel the position has become unbearable.

Crouching cowgirl

There is the regular cowgirl and the crouching cowgirl. With the regular cowgirl, you lie on your back while your girl sits on your instrument in the straddling position – with her knees on the floor. In the crouching cowgirl position, your girl lowers herself down on you and then moves up and down with her feet planted on the floor. The position provides a great workout for your partner when sustained for up to 10 minutes.

Reverse piggyback

With this position, you lift your girl completely off the floor and hold her up to your chest with both hands before entering into her. With her legs wrapped around your waist, you can then thrust into her while you remain in the standing position. This position strengthens your legs and arms since you are holding up your partner in your arms while doing her with her legs wrapped behind your back.

The bridge or wheelbarrow

With this position, the woman lies on her back and then pushes up her buttocks while propping up herself with her hands. The man in the missionary position then enters into her with his hands holding her buttocks closer to him for ease of thrust. In the wheelbarrow style, the man holds the woman’s hands as if he’s pushing a wheelbarrow. This position strengthens the core and leg muscles of both partners in a continuous exercise that becomes a fat-burner.

“Even if you’re just holding a squat over someone with repeated thrusting, anything you do for a long time is a degree of endurance and cardiovascular work,” said Timaree Schmit, Ph.D., a sexuality educator, and American Aerobics and Fitness Association certified fitness instructor. “For somebody who just wants to mix it up or make a sport out of sex, it’s ripe with opportunities for that.”
