In preparation for the 2019 presidential election, the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, has urge President Muhammadu Buhari to get ready to accept defeat in the forthcoming election if he loses, using former President Jonathan as a reference point.

This was revealed by the Anambra State Chairman, Atiku/Obi campaign council and former governorship candidate of the party in the state, Mr. Oseloka Obaz, adding that the party was sure that the victory of the race for the Presidential candidate belongs to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

He said Buhari’s refusal to conceal defeat in the forthcoming election can only be the storming block to PDP, taking power in this year’s election.

“We need a government that must set Nigeria back on the right path. The present government has demonstrated that it does not have the capacity to move Nigeria forward, and that is why we are confident that Nigerians will vote them out.

“This government has not fulfilled any of the promises it made to Nigeria when it was seeking power in 2015. Dollar is still much higher than the Naira, Petrol is still high, local government autonomy is still not met, and also the electoral reforms bills have not been done.

“That is why PDP will win this election. We are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to do what Jonathan did in 2015 when he loses. He must accept defeat and congratulate the winner. He must remember that one good act of leadership is accepting victory and loss when they come.”

Obaze while speaking on the capacity of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, urge the commission to conduct a free and fair election.

He opt that the party is not afraid of anything but only appealing to the commission to do all that is required to ensure a free and fair election.

“Not as if we are entertaining any fear, but there have been election postponements in the past, but we do not advise so. But where there are compelling reasons for a postponement, the government should be able to announce so clearly. We had all the time to prepare for this election, and I believe that everyone is prepared.”
