For fans of Arsenal and Chelsea, the chances of them watching their favorite teams slug it at Baku for the Europa League final has hit another roadblock. Without Transport for London, things have gotten even more difficult for the Arsenal and Chelsea fans.
Over the past few weeks, there as been a lot of controversy brewing around the Europa League final.
Firstly, it was then inability of Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan t travel to the Azerbaijan capital because of his Armenian descent and the political tension between both countries.
In the 68,000-seater stadium, both clubs have only been allocated 6,000 tickets each, as the airport is unable to cope with the vast number of travelling supporters.
The coaches of both Teams have criticized the decision of UEFA to host the final at Azerbaijan, which is about 2,000 miles away from London.
Supporters making the trip, particularly the early travelers will have more travel chaos to deal with.
In a statement released by TfL, it announced there will be “no service between Hammersmith and Heathrow / Uxbridge” on the Piccadilly line from 00:01 on Saturday morning until Bank Holiday Monday.
“This is due to track replacement work. Customers for Heathrow airport should use non-stop coaches running between Hammersmith and Heathrow airport. These have porters and extra space for luggage and buggies but are not wheelchair accessible.”
However, the Piccadilly line will be reopened on Tuesday. This would make it possible for any supporters trying to make their way to Baku from Heathrow Airport free to do so from then onwards, with the match taking place on Wednesday, 29 May, 2019
