The House of Representatives has strongly denied recent media reports suggesting that its members received N100 million in palliatives from the executive arm of the government.
Akin Rotimi, the House’s spokesperson, issued a statement to address these claims, which were attributed to Christopher Onyeka, the National Assistant General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Rotimi labeled Onyeka’s assertion as baseless and lacking factual accuracy.
He emphasized the importance of transparency and truth in public discourse within a functioning democracy.
Rotimi clarified that National Assembly members had not received any money from the executive arm as palliatives, considering Onyeka’s statement malicious, irresponsible, and in bad faith.
Furthermore, Rotimi called on the NLC to issue an immediate retraction of the misinformation and offer a public apology.
He underscored the significance of maintaining integrity and credibility in the NLC’s legitimate demands and actions as a crucial stakeholder in Nigeria’s development.
