Independence Anniversary: FG opts for a low-key celebration with no foreign leaders invited

by Alice Babalola

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, announced on Monday that Nigeria’s 63rd independence anniversary will be a subdued affair, and no foreign leaders have been invited to the event.

President Bola Tinubu approved the low-key celebration in line with the current economic realities. The theme for the anniversary is “Nigeria @ 63, Renewed Hope for Unity and Prosperity.”

Akume emphasized that no world leaders have been invited to the celebration, and the decision to keep it low-key reflects the economic challenges facing the nation.

He also mentioned that the administration is still young, and Nigerians can expect the implementation of policies and execution of projects in due course.

The SGF acknowledged that Nigerians have embraced democracy despite political instability in some parts of the West African subregion.

He assured the citizens that the government is aware of the economic challenges, especially since the removal of the fuel subsidy, and is working to provide necessary palliatives and engage with labor to address concerns for the well-being of all Nigerian workers and citizens.
