The Lagos State Government has dislodged and arrested some “recalcitrant” street traders in some areas of the state.
The Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, in a statement on Wednesday, mentioned the areas of operation to include Agege Motor Road, Kola, AIT Road, Command Gate, Ayobo Road, Egbeda, Igando, Ijegun, Jakande Gate, Okota, and Cele, among others.
The operation was carried out on Tuesday and Wednesday by operatives of Kick Against Indiscipline and Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps.
the state government has in recent weeks intensified its campaign against street trading, demolishing shanties and ejecting roadside traders.
The Director, Public Affairs in the ministry, Kunle Adeshina, in the statement, said, “Special operatives of KAI/LAGESC on Wednesday intensified its enforcement drive against street traders in the metropolis, dislodging them along the stretch of Agege Motor Road, Kola, AIT Road, Command Gate, Ayobo Road, Egbeda, lgando, ljegun, Jakande Gate, Okota and Cele.
“In the course of the operation, arrests of some of the recalcitrant traders were made and they were taken to the LAGESC/KAI headquarters, Oshodi for further action.”
“Post-festive season and in line with standing directives of HC MOE&WR, the Special Squad of KAI/LAGESC, early Tuesday, dislodged recalcitrant street traders, hindering the free flow of traffic at Agege Motor Road, Mushin, Ojuelegba, Yaba, Oyingbo, Outer Marina, CMS, Awolowo Way Falomo, Kingsway Road, Admiralty way, Lekki and Victoria Island. In the course of the exercise, some arrests of the street hawkers were made with seizure of items of sale and they have been taken to the Oshodi headquarters for further action,” he said in another statement.
