The Federal Government has announced its intention to introduce a new policy in the transport sector, mandating full compliance with the use of vehicle safety kits by motorists.

The Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, shared this plan during a sensitization program on road safety and the use of automobile safety kits organized by the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday.

The program, conducted in collaboration with West Africa Automobile Services Limited, a registered company in Egypt producing safety kits, aimed to emphasize the importance of road safety and the potential lives that could be saved through the adoption of simple road etiquette.

Represented by the Director, Road Transport and Mass Transit Administration in the ministry, Musa Ibrahim, Minister Alkali expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for fostering an investment-friendly environment that attracted West Africa Automobile Services Limited to invest in the country.

He affirmed the government’s commitment to implementing a policy supporting the use of safety kits for the overall success of the initiative.

President of the RTEAN, Musa Maitakobi, highlighted the collaboration’s purpose, emphasizing the transfer of investment benefits to the Nigerian economy.

He noted that the partnership with businesses, individuals, and community organizations seeks to raise awareness about the significance of having Automobile Safety Kits in every vehicle.

Maitakobi, represented by the Deputy RTEAN President, Muhammad Bushara, encouraged car owners and drivers to equip their vehicles with comprehensive safety kits.

He emphasized the importance of promoting safe driving practices and responsible ownership, with a focus on preventive measures to reduce accidents.

The Automobile Safety Kit includes reflective vests, traffic cones, safety helmets, and warning triangles to enhance visibility and alert other drivers during breakdowns or accidents.

Additionally, the kit comprises first aid supplies such as bandages, antiseptics, and wound dressing items for immediate care in case of injuries. The initiative aims to contribute substantially to protecting lives and fostering a culture of safety within the country.
