Job Summary
- Accountant to provide support to the financial department by managing daily accounting tasks.
- You will be part of a team of professionals working to maintain order and transparency for the company’s finances.
- The account will also assist the senior accountant in streamlining the company’s financial processes.
Job Responsibilities
- Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded
- Update accounts receivable and issue invoices
- Update accounts payable and perform reconciliations
- Assist in the processing of balance sheets, income statements and other financial statements according to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines
- Assist with reviewing of expenses, payroll records etc. as assigned
- Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed
- Maintain ledger; record and document company financial transactions
- Oversee bank reconciliations and balance financial records
- Update vendor information
- Keep updated budgets; handle monthly payroll disbursements and invoices, and confirm expense vouchers and purchase orders
- Prepare and present regular reports about company finances including budgets, debts, deficits, expenditures, and revenue
- Review data to ensure that proper procedures are being followed
- Conduct or assist with fixed asset audits
- Calculate taxes and prepare tax returns in compliance with payment and reporting regulations
- Identify and resolve financial discrepancies
- Utilize database management systems to maintain up-to-date record-keeping of financial documents
- Predict future revenue and expenses through a detailed analysis of current and past trends in costs, financial commitments, revenues, and trends
- Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports
- Assist senior accountants in the preparation of monthly/yearly closings
- Assist with other accounting projects
- Undertake any other task assigned
Job Requirements
Education:
- A Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or any closely related field from a reputable University. A professional certificate (ACCA, ICAN) is a must.
Experience:
- Minimum of (3) years’ work experience post NYSC.
- Experience in the usage of Accounting software.
Job Competences:
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
- In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Awareness of business trends
- Familiarity with financial accounting statements
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Hands-on experience with accounting software packages, like QuickBooks
- Advanced MS Excel skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skill.
