Blasphemy: Police arrest 15 suspects linked to Abuja killing

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has announced the arrest of 15 suspects fingered in the killing and burning of Ahmad Usman on Saturday in Abuja, after PUNCH Metro‘s report.

Usman, a 30-year-old resident in the Lugbe area of Abuja, was stoned to death and burnt by a mob over an alleged blasphemous comment against Prophet Muhammed and Allah, in the Lugbe area of the country’s capital city.

The police were yet to arrest anyone in connection to the incident.

After which the FCT Police Command, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, announced the arrest and detention of some suspects in connection to the killing.

“The FCT Police Command has arrested 15 suspects in connection with the violence and killing of the late Ahmad Usman, a member of a vigilante group, in the Lugbe Area of the FCT on June 4, 2022”.

“The arrest of the suspects follows ongoing investigations into the unfortunate incident and circumstances that led to the killing of the 30-year-old Usman,” the police said.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Babaji Sunday, also assured that the Command would get to the root of the matter and bring all the perpetrators to book.

Babaji, while calling for calm, said, “We assure that the Command would get to the root of the matter and bring all the perpetrators to book. We, therefore, reiterate that justice would be served in the matter.”
