Former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adamu Garba, has called on the Federal Government to shut down Twitter from Nigeria’s internet space.

Garba comments comments came after Twitter deleted a controversial tweet by President  Muhammad Buhari with a threat to deal with ‘those’ who have not learned from civil war history.

The President had on Tuesday tweeted: “Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”

The tweet however sparked outrage on Tuesday evening with many social media users describing it as ‘genocidal’ and a direct threat to people of the South-East region of Nigeria.

Following several complaints, Twitter eventually bowed to pressure, deleting the tweet, saying “This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules”.

Reacting, Garba said Twitter has no right to take down President Muhammadu Buhari’s tweet.

The former presidential aspirant, who also twitted to expressed his displeasure in the action taking against the President’s tweet, said the micro-blogging site should be expunged from Nigeria.

“Twitter has no right to infuse into our local political affairs. It’s a company not a government.

“By removing our democratically elected President’s speech to the people of Nigeria, Twitter needs to be shut down from Nigerian internet space.

“Twitter needs to get out of Nigeria,” the tweet read.
