BREAKING: FG suspends planned removal of fuel subsidy

Plans by the Federal Government to remove fuel subsidy by June of this year have been put on hold.

On Thursday, just after the National Economic Council, NEC, meeting that was presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning Ahmed Zaniab provided the hint.

She claimed that after lengthy discussion, the NEC, which is made up of State Governors, came to the opinion that it would not be advisable to end the subsidy while the new administration was still attempting to get its bearings.

She also noted that the existing committee that has been discussing the fuel subsidy issue needed to be expanded to enable more input from concerned Nigerians.

She specifically said there needed to be more interface with the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and more engagement with the petroleum marketers’ association, among others.
