Child Protection Policy: Lagos Enjoins Schools to Remain Safety Conscious

The Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) has enjoined all School Owners, School Administrators, and the entire school community to remain vigilant, especially on activities taking place in their environment, just as it implored schools below the tertiary level to ensure compliance with the Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy of the State as prescribed.

A statement signed by the Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), Ministry of Education, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, said the advice is essential for the furtherance of the State Government’s Emergency Guidance for Public and Private Schools.

She emphasized the need for all schools to proactively address various safety and child protection issues that may arise from time to time, stressing that the safety of learners, staff, and the school community must always be paramount to all stakeholders.

The Director-General recalled that the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, gave assurance to Lagosians that all necessary human, material, and operational resources have been deployed across the State to forestall any breakdown of law and order that might arise as an aftermath of the motorcycle ban in six LGAs in the State effective from 1st of June 2022.

Seriki-Ayeni, therefore, advised that in case of any emergency, all school owners and administrators should contact any of the following: the Lagos State Emergency toll-free lines – 767 or 112; the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency – 08000333333: Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development – 09077333426 and OEQA Direct Help Line – 08088084340 or WhatsApp Help Line: 08083267419 for assistance.

“School Administrators can also visit the Agency’s website – www.oeqalagos.com, where Incident Report (IR) forms can be filled for a quick response or send an email to info@oeqalagos.com. The Emergency Guidance for Public and Private Schools can be downloaded from the website under the Resource TAB”, she stated.
