What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?

  • The purpose of the role of the Commercial Security Manager is to support the WCA Head of Security and commercial teams to continuously improve the delivery of a sustainable, coordinated, professional, and cost-effective security risk management service to ensure that all personnel, assets, and business operations/activities in the West and Central Africa Cluster are effectively protected against criminal threats.

What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?

  • The various countries in the West and Central Africa Area pose various dynamic but volatile environments in which BAT conduct its business, with several criminal threats that are aimed to adversely impact BAT operations or residential areas of BAT IA’s. These include criminal threats to BAT- and contracted personnel, including IA’s, BAT assets, business information, operations, market share and business reputation. It is important that BAT employees and contractors are kept abreast of said threats, what the approved cost-effective mitigation measures are, and how they must comply to these measures.
  • An appropriate Security Programme is developed and implemented by the BAT WCA Risk and Security Team to handle current threats and as a critical member of the BAT WCA R&S Team, the role of the Commercial Security Manager is to identify and handle all risks to BAT assets and people to ensure that risks to people, infrastructure, assets and commercial operations are properly identified assessed and mitigated. All mitigation should respect the principle that measures designed are commensurate with assessed risk.

What You Will Be Accountable For

  • Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of sustainable performance standards of the BAT WCA security team in conjunction with contracted security service providers through improving the appropriate risk and security infrastructure, (people, processes, and digital transformation), and related security procedures in line with the objectives of the BAT security policy.
  • Identify all risks to BAT Commercial activities across the BAT WCA by assessing key business risks in our operating environment while ensuring that cost effective, proportionate measures are put in place to mitigate such risks.
  • by conducting Business Impact Analyses/assessments and propose mitigating actions to bridge identified gaps.
  • Set up a reliable information network including BAT service providers and multiple external sources
  • Liaise with government security Agencies and other external sources to optimise risk assessments within the trade universe.
  • Conduct Site Security and Vulnerability Assessments (SSAVAs) for all BAT premises and premises used by BAT (Distributor and warehouses owners) and propose cost effective measures to mitigate identified risks.
  • Review and update security SOP’s for Head offices and IA residences in Lagos, BAT offices and warehouses in WCA.
  • Facilitate the Business Continuity Management process for Commercial activities in Nigeria
  • Responsible for the management of security service providers and ensuring that required services are provided and delivered in full and on time as per contractual arrangements.
  • Ensure the Security Risk Management template is updated annually, and the SRM model is embedded in our commercial activities.
  • Interact with Distributor regarding threat assessment (SSAVA) and BCPs. Coordinate and support the business continuity process in other commercial activities
  • Work with the investigations team to carry out objective enquiries/investigations into all reported cases or incidents, breaches by figuring out facts, understanding vulnerability and drawing appropriate supportable conclusions to make recommendations.

Essential Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • Diploma in Security and Risk Management or Criminology.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in security, project and finance management within the corporate security function or private security sector.
  • Leading 3rd parties and security service providers.
  • Handling financial budgets.
  • Performance reviews and audits.
  • Project Management of required security infrastructure changes and security equipment implementation.
  • Providing input into the design of security service provider contracts.
  • Providing written reports and presentations for Business Cases, threats, incidents, and investigations.
  • Engaging with BAT Managers from all functions to build and leverage trust relationships for the successful implementation of security initiatives.
  • Understanding potential threats to BAT Commercial activities across WCA.
