Coronavirus: Kano test centre suspends operations

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC ) COVID-19 test laboratory centre in Kano which was activated on April 6 at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, has suspended operations.

Prof. Isah Abubakar, Director of the Centre for Infectious Diseases Research, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) confirmed the development on Wednesday April 22, saying the centre had run out of test kits such as reagents.

He said the shortage was noticed on Tuesday April 21, when the Centre tested 44 persons. According to him, the reagents were only enough for 40 suspected patients as the results for the other four was invalid due to shortage of the reagents.
Prof Isah said the NCDC headquarters in Abuja have been notified and they expecting a restock.

He said ‘Right now as I speak to you, the 4 others that the results were invalid yesterday have been sent to Abuja to complete the test and get results.”
