COVID-19: Presidential Task Force clears the air on possible extension of the Lockdown in Lagos, Abuja, Ogun

The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 has said only President Muhammadu Buhari can take a decision on the extension of the lockdown in Lagos and Ogun states, and Abuja.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, who is the Chairman of the task force, disclosed this while responding to questions on whether or not the lockdown will be extended, at a press briefing in Lagos on Tuesday.

The task force Chairman explained that the decision to extend the lockdown of the States will be taken by the President after he (Buhari) has received the updates on the outcome of the Presidential Task Force by the end of this week.

“The President was the one who through the national broadcast announced the lockdown of these States, which he explained that the decision was based on the advice of the Minister of Health and other experts.

“Therefore, if there is going to be an extension to the lockdown, the President will make it know by the end of this week when he gets the report from the PTF.”

Mustapha also urged the public to cooperate with the government in order to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, and Director-General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, also briefed reporters.
