Credit Control Manager at Chemical and Allied Products – CAP Plc

Objective/ Purpose of Job

  • Effectively and efficiently, monitor the credit control policies of the organization in such a way as will maximize prompt settlement from customers and minimize losses through bad debts.
  • Ensure prompt and proper administration of our insurance claim policies. Ensure strict adherence to the approved trade terms of the organization.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To ensure that there is an efficient system of credit procedures and controls including reconciling customers’ accounts and follow up of overdue debts, prompt and reliable invoice and statement distribution.
  • To design efficient debt collection procedures and ensure that these procedures are strictly adhered to at all CAP Plc sales outlets.
  • To discuss and resolve problems, queries and disputes arising on credit sales transactions.
  • To compute quarterly rebate for the Management approval and ensure prompt payment.
  • To visit branches and customers regularly to discuss and solve any problem being encountered on credit sales transactions.
  • To assess debtors quarterly and at year-end with a view to ensuring that adequate bad and doubtful debts provisions are made.
  • To liaise with the Finance Controller to ensure accurate reporting of debtors’ situation.
  • To provide quality and timely management information on credit control.
  • To provide parameters for placing defaulting customers on stop list and ensure these are enforced.
  • To recommend debtors for legal action and liaises with Company Legal Department for all debts pursued through the courts.
  • To ensure that judgment given by the courts against the debtors are promptly followed up with the legal department
  • To age debts in accordance with the approved debtors’ ageing analysis.
  • To ensure adequate insurance cover for company assets, review of asset portfolio report on status of claims to management and prompt reporting of our claims to the brokers.
  • To ensure compliance on company discount policies as approved by the management.
  • Ensure efficient day-to-day operation of the credit control department is maintained.
  • To investigate and rectify anomalies on the invoices, receipts e.t.c.
  • To assist in organizing consolidation of monthly financial accounts in order to ensure that all accounting returns and statements are submitted on due dates to management.
  • Perform any other duty assigned by the Finance Controller.

Education and Years of Experience

  • First degree (with Hons) in Accountancy or related discipline plus ACA with a minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

  • The jobholder must be versatile in Sales and Marketing techniques, Financial Management and Corporate Finance, Database Management system.
  • In addition, the jobholder must demonstrate self-confidence and integrity, interpersonal and communication skills, good knowledge of the business.
  • Must also be good at information and customer management, and sound external orientation.
