Dominican University signs MOU with South Korean University

With deepest sense of responsibility and commitment to partnerships, advancement and other forms of linkages, I have the immense pleasure to announce that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is made and entered into this day, August 5th, 2024 by and between Kyungdong University, Republic of South Korea and represented by its President, Prof. Dr. John Lee, and Dominican University, Federal Republic of Nigeria represented by its Vice Chancellor, Prof Jacinta A. Opara. This MOU shall remain in force for three years from the date of signing and may be renewed or amended by mutual agreement in a written form endorsed by the parties’ authorized representatives.

The parties seek to develop and implement collaboration in the field of education. The areas of collaboration to be undertaken under this MOU are based on a spirit of transparency, accountability, and reciprocity that is intended to be of mutual benefit to the parties.

a. This MOU serves as a written agreement between KDU and DUI concerning the admission and accommodation of DUI’s students.
b. Commitments of specific institutional resources, personnel, space, facilities, or any other academic or intellectual activities by the parties may be contemplated hereunder but are beyond the scope of this MOU.
c. This is intended to clarify the nature and extent of the complementary activities that might be undertaken for the parties’ mutual benefit. Each party will be responsible for managing its costs.
d. To the extent that implementation of any agreed-upon activity requires a commitment of resources, personnel, or intellectual property, a supplementary agreement shall be made and approved by the parties in writing before any work on the activities commences.

The parties agreed to collaborate in providing Dominican University’s students with scholarship opportunities to continue their education at Kyungdong University, South Korea. The scope of collaboration and specific activities enunciated by this MOU:

a. The parties work together in promoting KDU to the students of DUI
b. The parties provide support to DUI’s students who apply to KDU in obtaining an appropriate visa and/or documents deemed necessary for the visa process.
c. Based on recommendation and request by DUI, KDU considers providing additional assistance to DUI’s students who are admitted to KDU.
d. Work together in partnership areas agreed upon by both parties such as seminars and summer program activities.
e. Students must be prepared for the initial expense and payment of airfare, visa, application fee, dormitory, health insurance, sustenance costs, and so on. Neither institution shall be held liable for such charges and arrangements
f. Each participating student will take courses offered at the host institution. Academic credits earned at the host institution may be transferred back to the home institution in accordance with procedures determined by the latter.

KDU provides scholarship to the admitted students from DUI according to KDU’s scholarship scheme. KDU offers Scholarships to applicants based on their English language abilities, and the academic performance of their educational institution. KDU reserves the right to decide on the admission of applicants from DUI and the application for a scholarship scheme and other financial benefits.

With the objective of strengthening ties through joint projects and activities of both universities, the agreement allows for the creation of faculty and researcher exchange. Both institutions agreed to promote joint research and realize cooperative projects. Both parties may share financial resources necessary for the completion of joint programs. The following conditions will apply:

  • The professors and researchers will maintain their status as faculty members at their home institution for the duration of the exchange.
  • The appropriate academic departments and administrative offices will assist in securing housing and other necessary arrangements for living in the host institution’s city.

Founded in 1981, Kyungdong University (KDU) has emerged as one of the leading Korean universities in international education. Currently, KDU is nurturing thousands of students in over 30 disciplines throughout its three campuses in Korea: Metropol Campus in Yangju-si, Medical Campus in Wonju-si, and Global Campus in Goseong/Sokcho. Since 2015, KDU Global has been offering various English and Korean medium undergraduate degree programs as well as vocational training courses in the areas of International Business, International Hotel Management, Computing Technologies, and Korean Studies for international students. Within a short period of time, KDU Global has become a top destination for international students from over 50 countries!

This collaborative relationship between Dominican University and the Kyungdong University would undoubtedly lead to enormous mutual benefits, including the exchange of knowledge, resources, and best international practices and in the context of sustaining cooperation and partnership between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Republic of South Korea,
