In the face of prevailing economic difficulties stemming from the removal of petrol subsidy, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, has affirmed the genuine intentions of President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the betterment of Nigeria.

She urged Nigerians to look beyond the current hardships and focus on the broader perspective, which promises brighter outcomes.

Addressing a delegation led by the President of the Defence and Police Wives Association, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, comprising the Wives of Service Chiefs and the Inspector General of Police, Senator Tinubu emphasized that President Tinubu’s government is dedicated to mitigating the impacts of the fuel subsidy elimination.

She reassured the nation that the dividends of these efforts will be reaped as the policy’s benefits become tangible.

Highlighting her own initiative, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), the First Lady indicated that it is working in synergy with the government to alleviate the consequences of the subsidy removal.

She requested support from the wives of Service Chiefs in propagating this cause.

In a statement released by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady articulated, “We will need your various Associations from time to time, at least to be able to reach out women in your various barracks, to reassure them that we mean well for this country, and that they should be patient and that whatever we can do to ameliorate what the subsidy has meted to us, we believe there is always light at the end of the tunnel.”

She further added, “It is a greater Nigeria we are looking out for and it is a legacy that our children and generations yet unborn, we would leave a Nigeria we can relate better as Nigerians and also look for the good of this nation and the wealth of this country can be greater enhanced”.

The First Lady also promised that the RHI would soon extend its support to vulnerable widows of fallen military personnel.

Leading the delegation, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, President of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association, affirmed the commitment of various Associations within the Defence and Police circles to collaborate with the Renewed Hope Initiative across its areas of focus, including Agriculture, Education, Health, Economic Empowerment, and Social Investment. These facets, she noted, are of collective interest to the Associations.

In a notable recognition, the First Lady was elevated to the position of Grand Matron of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association, a designation entrenched in the associations’ constitution.
