Ensure proper waste disposal, Lagos govt urges residents

The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps has urged residents to embrace responsible environmental choices and ensure proper waste disposal during the festive season.

The Corps Marshal, LAGSEC, CP Gbemisola Akinpelu (retd.) made the appeal, according to a statement on Monday at the agency’s headquarters in Bolade-Oshodi.

Akinpelu said, “The Christmas festivities are upon us and we enjoin Lagosians to make responsible choices for the environment in Lagos, dispose of refuse properly and stop all forms of environmental abuses.

Lagosians need to pay their waste bills since LAGESC has the statutory powers to enforce environmental laws by arresting defaulters based on orders from a competent court of jurisdiction.

“We also enjoin residents to have valid waste contracts and patronise approved Private Sector Participation operators to cart refuse away from residential areas.”

Akinpelu also advised residents to be security-conscious and alert, especially during the celebrations and report any suspicious activities in their neighbourhoods to law enforcement agents in the state.
