FG aims to boost tourism, unveils plans at 2023 world tourism day

The Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade-John, has outlined the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting Nigeria’s tourism products both domestically and in the diaspora.

During the 2023 World Tourism Day event in Abuja, with the theme ‘Tourism and Green Investment,’ she emphasized the vast potential of tourism for revenue generation and its role in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Minister Lola Ade-John underscored the importance of taking tourism to the grassroots level by showcasing hidden treasures in villages across the country.

She identified key growth factors for Nigeria’s tourism sector, including community empowerment, collaboration, sustainable development, investment in renewable energy, and digital transformation.

Despite challenges facing the industry, the Minister expressed confidence in overcoming them through collective efforts and collaboration among stakeholders.

The event also featured remarks from the United Nations World Tourism Secretary-General, Zurab Pololikashvili, who highlighted tourism’s significance in addressing global challenges, including climate change and sustainable economic development.
