The Federal Government has granted approval for the re-opening of the Seme land border to enable the importation of vehicles.
Ibrahim Musa, the Director of Road Transport in the Ministry of Transportation, announced this development during an Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) meeting between Nigerian and Benin Republic officials.
The decision came in response to complaints from freight forwarders operating at the Seme border.
Previously, the importation of vehicles through the land borders had been suspended by the previous administration, leading to a decline in revenue for the Customs Area Controller of Seme Border Command, Dera Nnadi.
In response to stakeholder requests, the former Minister of Transportation initiated the process to reactivate the border and presented a memorandum to the government.
The Ministry confirmed that the memorandum was adopted by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and would be forwarded to the new government, providing reassurance that all the requests were considered.
