The Federal Government of Nigeria had revoked the planned resumption of federal schools in the country, stating that students would not be allowed to participate in the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations earlier scheduled for August 4 to September 5.
The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, disclosed this in Abuja at the end of a meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The minister made it known that federal schools would remain shut until it is safe to reopen them.
He also pleaded with state governments that have announced school resumption plans to repeal such.
Adamu stated that the West African Examinations Council is not in the position to decide the resumption date of schools in Nigeria.
Furthermore, he explained and pleaded with Nigerian students to lose an academic year than to be vulnerable to heath dangers amid the coronavirus pandemic.
