FG reviews paramilitary recruitment guidelines, allocates 35% slots to women

The Federal Government has announced a comprehensive review of the guidelines for recruitment into the Civil Defence, Fire, Correctional, and Immigration Services.

Under the new guidelines, 35% of recruitment slots for these services will be allocated to women.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made this announcement in Abuja at the conclusion of the meeting of the Board of the Civil Defence, Fire, Correctional, and Immigration Services (CDFCISB).

The minister, speaking on behalf of the Board, emphasized that the decision aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

The ongoing recruitment into the Federal Fire Service will now follow the revised guidelines, focusing on professionalism, gender mainstreaming, and adherence to federal character principles.

Tunji-Ojo highlighted the broader modernization efforts within the Nigeria Immigration Service, encompassing training, recruitment, promotion, professionalism, capacity building, and the deployment of cutting-edge technologies.

He stated, “The federal government, through the board, has approved the review of the guidelines for recruitment into and promotion in all four services under the Ministry of Interior.”

The minister also warned against scammers who exploit individuals seeking recruitment opportunities, urging Nigerians to avoid paying money for recruitment into the Fire Service.

The services are expected to release timelines for recruitment in the near future.

Shedding light on the modernization plans for the Immigration Service, the Comptroller-General, Mrs. Adepoju, emphasized a focus on capacity building and specialization along professional lines to ensure that promotions are based on merit and not a reward for redundancy.
