The Federal Government has said 51 million Nigerians have so far enrolled for the National Identity Numbers (NIN).
The government also said 189 million Subscriber Identification Modules, (SIM) have been linked their numbers to NIN in the country out of which 150 million registrations have been completed.
The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, on Thursday, disclosed this on Wednesday at the weekly State House Press Briefing at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The others, according to the Minister, had issues of improper registration.
Pantami said it was a criminal offence punishable by imprisonment for any Nigerian to transact business like open a bank account, pay taxes among others without having NIN.
He said Nigerians without NIN risked 14 years imprisonment as stipulated by the Constitution.
