FG to introduce new curriculum for secondary schools September

The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, announced on Thursday that a new curriculum for secondary schools across Nigeria will be introduced by September 2024.

Mamman announced this at Abuja’s 2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board policy meeting.

He stated, “We are working hard to ensure that a new curriculum is introduced for secondary schools by September.”

The Minister mentioned that the curriculum development exercise has been ongoing for the past year, and a stakeholders meeting is scheduled for August 6, 2024.

“It is our plan that by September, this programme will be implemented in all schools, public and private,” he added.

Recently, the National Senior Secondary School Education Commission highlighted the poor state of senior secondary schools in Nigeria, calling for collaboration to address the challenges faced by the secondary education sector.

These challenges include infrastructural deficits, unqualified teachers, outdated curriculums, and inadequate libraries and laboratories. The introduction of a new curriculum is part of the efforts to tackle these issues.
