The Federal Government has pledged to construct 80,000 houses over the next eight years as part of its measures to bridge the housing deficit faced by Nigerians.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Mahmuda Mamman, revealed this commitment during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the 12th meeting of the National Council on Lands, Housing, and Urban Development held in Kaduna.
Mamman highlighted the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing its innovative approach to addressing housing challenges.
He explained that the president had approved a memorandum, particularly focusing on the social housing scheme, aimed at providing affordable housing for vulnerable individuals in the country.
“This policy ensures that vulnerable persons in the country can afford to have a roof over their heads, thereby bridging the gap in the housing sector,” Mamman stated.
He further assured that the houses, totaling 80,000, would cater to all Nigerians, regardless of their socioeconomic status.
While urging patience, the permanent secretary affirmed the government’s commitment to implementing these initiatives differently, prioritizing effective delivery and encouraging states to collaborate in providing land for the housing projects.
