The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) unveiled its groundbreaking Nigeria Data Protection Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (NDP-SRAP 2023-2027) in Abuja on Wednesday.
The ambitious action plan is set to contribute approximately N125 billion in revenue while simultaneously generating over 500,000 job opportunities.
The NDP-SRAP, structured around five pivotal pillars—Governance, Ecosystem and Technology, Human Capital Development, Cooperation and Collaboration, and Funding and Sustainability—was launched alongside a comprehensive capacity-building workshop for Data Protection Officers focusing on Data Privacy and Protection.
During the launch, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, the National Commissioner of the NDPC, emphasized the critical role of the NDP-SRAP and training initiatives in achieving the Commission’s objective of establishing a robust data protection sector.
He underscored the alignment of these efforts with the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which aims to create two million jobs in the digital economy sector, with the data protection sector alone anticipated to contribute over 500,000 jobs.
Dr. Olatunji highlighted that the NDP-SRAP encompasses interconnected initiatives and activities geared towards job and wealth creation, human capital development, revenue generation, foundational initiatives for the digital economy, and enhancing Nigeria’s global reputation.
