Karim Benzema will be out of Real Madrid’s line up against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday as a result of a hamstring injury.
Benzema’s absence will definitely come as a huge blow to Los Blancos, who at the moment need someone else to score this weekend.
The often-maligned French center-forward, Benzema has been in top form for Madrid since Zinedine Zidane returned as head coach, scoring eight of Los Blancos’ past eight goals.
Benzema played 90 minutes in Thursday’s nil draw at Getafe – that the first time in six matches he failed to find the net – but was absent in training on Saturday, with Real Madrid confirming the 31-year-old has unfortunately, suffered a leg injury.
The club statement read, “Following the tests carried out on our player Karim Benzema by the Real Madrid medical department, he has been diagnosed with a muscular injury to his left biceps femoris.”
“His recovery will continue to be assessed.”
Madrid, however, did not place a timeframe on Benzema’s recovery, but Zidane told a pre-match news conference that Benzema, his main striker would be sidelined this weekend.
“We know Karim will not be there, but we will put out a team to try and win the game,” he said. “I won’t say how we will play, or the system. We have many options.”
