Job Summary

  • The Head of Engineering will oversee and mentor the engineering teams, providing technical guidance and managing daily operations.
  • This role involves optimizing resource allocation, driving efficient project development and execution, and ensuring comprehensive documentation of all activities.
  • Additionally, you will be responsible for fostering a collaborative and productive engineering environment while continuously improving organizational processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical direction and support to the teams during design, installation, start-up, testing, system commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting or performance monitoring.
  • Promptly report and manage all technical issues and equipment failures and find effective solutions.
  • Support engineers in conducting power audits, feasibility studies, site surveys, and electrical system assessments for power/energy projects.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the team to ensure smooth workflow and productivity.
  • Manpower planning to optimize resource allocation including manpower, equipment, and materials.
  • Design circuits and create schematics. Interpret and analyze electrical engineering designs, and circuit diagrams to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Monitor KPI achievements and career path management for team members
  • Improve testing and repair techniques.
  • Risk assessment to minimize project risks.
  • Repair faulty electronic components and restore damaged systems to excellent operational condition.
  • Improve on existing standard operating procedures for the department
  • Conduct regular project meetings, and attend technical and coordination meetings providing clear communication and updates to internal and external stakeholders
  • Responsible for transforming electrical design on paper into reality
  • Proactively identify faults or malfunctions
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in emerging engineering technologies.
  • Responsible for the audit, design, installation, and timely execution of power projects within scope and within budget.
  • Relationship Management
  • Ability to develop project schedules, coordinate and monitor the assigned engineering projects
  • Perform overall quality control of the work (budget, schedule, plans, personnel’s performance)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including procurement, business development, finance etc. to achieve project goals
  • Assist with customer site callouts from time to time
  • Involvement in bid/tender preparation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of maintenance activities, including repairs, replacements, and equipment performance.
  • Delivering presentations to staff members and other stakeholders
  • Assist in the design and configuration of AVR and Inverter and other energy storage and backup solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Provide training and support to staff to enhance skills and improve performance.
  • Timely submittal of all travel expenses, time reporting, service reporting and e-mail correspondence.
  • Implements appropriate safety procedures; reviews safety practices; investigates injuries and unsafe conditions; takes appropriate corrective action.
  • Ensure quality control measures are in place, monitoring compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA / QC policies, performance standards and specifications
  • Conduct accurate power audits and end-use energy demand profiling
  • Use portable energy audit instruments such as power analysers, data loggers
  • Monitor workshop operations to ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Develop comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOM) to guide procurement.
  • Ability to estimate project costs from established cost elements, including contingency management.
  • Review engineering content with senior project engineer, departmental head and partners.
  • Support electrical engineering projects from concept to completion, including calculations, specifications, and documentation.
  • Maintain the company’s tools, equipment, and PPE

Compentencies:

  • Sound technical expertise in electrical engineering, including power and control systems, power distribution, electrical wiring etc.
  • Technical troubleshooting and ability to identify the root cause of problems
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to interpret engineering designs, schematics, and electrical drawings
  • Ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suites, such as Excel and MS Project, and engineering design software such as AUTOCAD, REVIT, solidwork, Matlab, ETAP etc
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. and presentation skills
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Smart with high problem-solving skills.
  • Good coordination of internal and external parties towards delivery of a defined objective

  • In-depth understanding of engineering principles, domestic and industrial electrical systems operation and maintenance

Other Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Masters degree is an added advantage
  • Minimum of 10 years experience preferably within the power engineering sector.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience of design and installation of UPS, Inverters, solar systems, and AVR systems
  • Membership in professional associations such as NSE or COREN certification is an added advantage.
  • Experience with repairs of electronic boards, and electronic appliances
  • Proven experience leading technical teams
