After the landing gear failed to deploy, a Myanmar pilot has incredibly landed a jet to safety even without front wheels.
Before coming to a stop, the Myanmar National Airlines plane skidded down the runway at Mandalay airport.
However, more of the 89 passengers on board was hurt on which the pilot of the Embraer190 was praised for the brilliant landing.
The airline said that Captain Myat Moe Aung went round the airport twice to allow air traffic controllers to know if the landing gear was down.
The aircraft had left Yangon and was on its way to Mandalay when the pilot was not able to extend the front landing gear to land. And the airline said that he followed emergency procedures and shed excess fuel to reduce the aircraft’s weight.
A video of the landing showed the plane landing on its rear wheels before the nose touched down on the runway. The plane skidded for as long as 25 seconds before it came to a halt.
“The pilot did a great job,” Win Khant, Myanmar’s transport minister, told the Reuters news agency.
The incident makes it the second aviation accident in Myanmar this week. On Wednesday, a Biman Bangladesh Airlines plane skidded off the runway when it landed in bad weather at Yangon’s international airport, injuring at least 17 people.
