Industrial court stops NLC, TUC from going on strike

by Alice Babalola

In response to the declaration of a nationwide strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and their affiliates, the National Industrial Court has issued a restraining order, prohibiting any strike or industrial action.

The decision to embark on the strike arose from an extraordinary National Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja, following the alleged assault on NLC National President, Joe Ajaero, in Imo State.

Facing legal intervention, the Federal Government, the Attorney General of the Federation, and the Minister of Justice filed an ex-parte application urging the court to prevent the unions from proceeding with the planned strike.

President of the Court, Justice Benedict Kanyip, delivered the verdict on Friday, directing the unions to halt their scheduled nationwide strike.
