Job Summary

  • The jobholder is responsible for creating and presenting a consistently applied investment message to the investment community.
  • The IRO is also responsible for monitoring and presenting to management the opinions of the investment community regarding the company’s performance.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic IR planning & implementation 
  • Identifying the parts of the investment story which are not understood.
  • Arranging meetings with sector analysts, existing and potential investors to educate and inform on growth, quality and risk.
  • Citing or commissioning industry research to demonstrate growth potential
  • Media relations activity to reinforce the investment story and to present company spokesmen as industry specialists, thereby raising the profile of the company.
  • Managing disclosure policy.
  • Managing the financial calendar.
  • Managing the reporting of corporate deals and issues.
  • Building relationships with investors.
  • Building relationships with and influencing sell-side analysts to get quality coverage of the company stock.
  • Monitoring analyst estimates (consensus) and circulating analyst research within the company.
  • Obtaining feedback from investors and analysts.
  • Coordinating IR with media relations.
  • Measuring progress and adjusting IR strategy.
  • Reporting market/sector feedback and reaction to the Board and briefing the Board on likely market reaction prior to release of information.
  • Maintains a dynamic, realistic and flexible calendar which is constructed to the achievement of the company’s IR goals in the shorter term and objectives longer term.

Education / Professional 

  • BA/BSc. in Finance or Accounting. Masters’ degree in finance will be added advantage
  • CFA will be an added advantage and other relevant professional certification
  • Minimum of 10 or more years’ experience dealing with investors and a strong track record of creating positive relations with the investor community 5+ years’ experience in managing an investor relations department.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong understanding of SEC laws and securities disclosure requirements, as well as filing requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Intimately familiar with financial modeling techniques and valuation methods used by analysts and investors.
  • Strong in planning, organization and project management.
  • Social media savviness.
  • Flexible: able to quickly judge situations and shift activities.
  • Knows and understands confidentiality, price-sensitive and disclosure regulatory requirements.
