JAMB vows not to process Direct Entry applicants with unverified certificates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) affirmed on Friday that it would not proceed with the processing of any Direct Entry admission without certificate verification for Advanced Level candidates applying for the 2023 admissions.

This announcement, made via an official statement on the Board’s handle, follows the Federal Government’s suspension of degree certificate accreditation from Benin Republic and Togo earlier in the week.

The government’s decision was based on concerns about some Nigerians using unscrupulous methods to obtain degrees for job opportunities they are not qualified for.

JAMB emphasized the importance of certificate verification for Direct Entry candidates and urged them to promptly contact their former institutions for verification.

The Board warned that non-responsive institutions’ students would not be considered for admissions in the upcoming academic year.

JAMB has already communicated with all tertiary institutions that issued the certificates, noting positive responses from some but expressing dissatisfaction with the lackadaisical approach of others. The Board provided links for candidates to access the list of non-responsive institutions.

The statement emphasized, “The Board will not process any DE admission without certificate verification, and the admission process for the academic year will soon be concluded. The Board would not consider all affected students of non-responsive institutions for admissions for the academic year.”
