Labour suspends nationwide strike after talks with Tinubu

The Organised Labour has decided to suspend its scheduled nationwide strike merely 24 hours after kickstarting widespread protests against the removal of the fuel subsidy.

Trade Union Congress President, Festus Osifo, revealed this development during an exclusive interview with Arise News on Thursday morning.

Osifo conveyed that following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, the Labour leadership secured concrete commitments for the prompt execution of several issues addressed during the discussions.

This decision to suspend the strike action, as elucidated by Osifo, emerges from these favorable assurances.

Initially, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had declared its intention to forge ahead with the extensive mass protest as originally planned, subsequent to discussions with the Federal Government.

NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, stressed that the deliberations with the government failed to produce any constructive alterations or concessions capable of diverting their intended course of action.

He emphasized the steadfast determination of the NLC to stand as a resolute advocate for the interests and aspirations of Nigerian workers and the general populace.
