The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has developed an advanced online course aimed at safeguarding and protecting minors from abuse.
The Executive Secretary of the Lagos DSVA, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, announced the launch of this course during the “Online Course for Beginners” in 2020, which had over 13,000 participants.
Vivour-Adeniyi emphasized that the course was a technology-driven approach to ensure the safety of children in schools.
The newly developed advanced online course is a collaborative effort between the Lagos DSVA and the Office of Education Quality Assurance, with the goal of enhancing child protection and safeguarding practices.
The course consists of five modules, covering topics such as the fundamentals of child protection and safeguarding, understanding child sexual abuse, identifying and preventing child abuse, implementing disciplinary measures, reporting procedures for safeguarding, and developing a child protection policy.
Specifically designed for teachers, guidance counselors, school social workers, and designated safeguarding and Child Protection Officers in Child-Centered Institutions, especially schools, this online certified course aims to empower educators and enhance their proficiency in handling safeguarding and child protection disclosures within their educational settings.
Upon completion of the course, teachers will be required to take a test, and upon successful completion, they will receive a certificate via email, validating their achievement.
Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, the Director-General of the Office of Education Quality Assurance, praised this initiative and emphasized the government’s commitment to continuous capacity building in the education sector.
She highlighted the ministry’s efforts in strengthening quality control and regulation of both public and private schools through monitoring and evaluation.
The training program aligns with the ministry’s policy implementation, aiming to equip professionals in the education sector with globally accepted best practices.
