Lagos COVID19 positivity rate increased from 0.1% to 14.1% in 24 days

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, says there has been a significant increase in the COVID19 case positivity rate in the state.

While giving an update of the COVID19 situation in the state as of December 10, Abayomi said as of November 15, 2021, the case positivity was 0.1 per cent, adding that it jumped to 14.1 per cent on the reported date.

“As of 15th November 2021, case positivity was 0.1 per cent. Over the past 24 days, there has been a significant increase in case of positivity from 0.1 per cent to 14.1 per cent as of 10th of December, 2021.”

According to the commissioner, the total number of COVID-19 cases is 79,925 and the average case positivity is 8.9 per cent. He added that the fatality rate is at 0.87 per cent.

The Health commissioner added that the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is now 687.

He said 893,055 COVID-19 tests have been conducted so far in the state with 77 per cent of the test done at the private testing centres and 23 per cent of tests done at the public centres.

The commissioner said that 5,292 COVID-19 patients had been successfully treated and discharged from the state’s isolation centres. He added that 72,065 persons, who were managed under the state’s home-based care have recovered in the community.
