The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK), in partnership with Red Bull Nigeria, recently launched and unveiled the “Lagos Encourage Park”, a purpose-built BMX Park which is the first of its kind in Lagos and indeed in Nigeria at Osborne, Ikoyi.

In his address at the opening ceremony, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab said the state government is committed to returning the environmental sanity of Lagos wherein our parks can function as recreational facilities for all.

According to him, the Lagos Encourage Park is designed to showcase the versatility amongst our youths by providing an environment to sharpen their talents in cycling and skateboarding, charging them to take good care of the facility while promising that the state government would continue to support ideas and creativity for the development of youths in the State.

On his part, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende implored the youths not to engage in unproductive activities but rather develop themselves in sports that can launch them to stardom just like Courage Adams whose dream inspired the park.

He asserted that Courage Adams is a renowned Red Bull BMX athlete who is inspiring youth across the world with his skills and tricks.

The General Manager of LASPARK, Mrs. Adetoun Popoola called on experienced riders to serve as role models and mentors for aspiring athletes by sharing their knowledge and guiding them on their BMX journey, stressing that the Park is expected to be a breeding ground for future champions, a place where dreams are born and nurtured.

She expressed gratitude to Red Bull Nigeria, saying that Lagos State Government through LASPARK will continue to seek out opportunities for collaboration to promote recreation and beautification in Lagos State, saying “The partnership is in line with LASPARK’s mandate to promote beautification, recreation and leisure in Lagos State”.

Highlighting the importance of parks and gardens as safe spaces for members of communities to converge, interact as well as improve their health and wellness by being active, Popoola averred that Parks can contribute to lower crime rates and that the partnership affirms Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to a Healthy and Sustainable Environment in Lagos.

“Our Agency is open to exploring partnerships and collaborations that will benefit residents of the State”, Popoola added.
