The Lagos State Government has issued a statement urging residents to disregard a viral publication claiming that certain communities in the state would perform “oro traditional rites” on Thursday and Friday nights.
The publication, which has been circulating on social media platforms, specifically mentions communities such as Ikate, Ijora-Badiya, Amuwo Odofin, Ojota, Ikorodu, Somolu-Bariga, Igbobi-Sabe land, Ojodu-Isheri, Isolo-Okota-Ilasamaja, Ejigbo-Idimu, Isheri-Ijegun, Ikotun-Igando, and Iba land, among others.
The post advises females and non-indigenes to stay indoors during the specified hours, claiming that the “owners of the land want to do rituals.”
However, the Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos State Governor, Gboyega Akosile, has categorically dismissed the claims, stating that the government should not even be responding to such unfounded rumors. Akosile emphasized that the publication lacks any rational basis and should be disregarded by the public.
Notably, a similar viral publication surfaced a few days before the 2023 governorship election, indicating a potential pattern of misinformation. The Lagos State Government seeks to assure its residents that there is no basis for concern regarding the alleged “oro traditional rites.”
