Lagos govt educates Ojodu LCDA residents, others on hygiene

The Lagos State Government, on Wednesday, inaugurated a project to improve sanitation and hygiene among the vulnerable population of the state.

According to the government, the programme was aimed at educating the residents of Ojodu Local Council Development Areas and Ikorodu North on good hygiene.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Office of Drainage Services, Nurudeen Shodeinde, inaugurated the project at Ikeja GRA.

Shodeinde, who was represented at the event by the Director, Drainage Enforcement and Compliance, Mahmood Adegbite, “This is to formalise the structured and methodical approach to gaining universal adoption of hand washing and faecal sludge disposal, behaviours that are expected to reduce disease-causing micro-organisms and parasite transmission.

“Our esteemed audience does not need convincing about the importance of hygiene, you are active stakeholders with whom we can discuss ways to persuade others of the importance of hygiene, water supply, sanitation and public health.”

The representative of the Country Manager, WaterAid/Kimberly Clark, Mr Ukeme Essien, said the project would provide mothers and pregnant women with hygiene kits.
