Lagos govt gives Lekki illegal building owners seven-day notice to leave

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources in Lagos State, Tokunbo Wahab, has issued a seven-day contravention notice to owners of buildings situated on Orchid Road, Agungi, Ajiran, Conservation Road, Osapa, all along the Ikota River.

The announcement was made by Kunle Adesina, the Director of Public Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, through a post on his X account on Monday.

Adesina revealed that Commissioner Wahab, in collaboration with Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, issued the notice following an inspection tour of the Ikota River corridor.

The inspection aimed to assess the level of compliance by property owners whose buildings and fences infringe upon the approved seven-meter setback on both sides of the channel.

Highlighting the specifics of the notice, Adesina stated, “The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab on Sunday issued a seven-day contravention notice to owners of buildings lying within the seven-metre setback on Orchid rd, Agungi, Ajiran, Conservation Road, Osapa all along the Ikota River.”

As the Lagos State government reiterates its commitment to enforcing regulations, it recently emphasized that more structures will face demolition in the state.
