Lagos govt trains youth, women in fashion designing

The Lagos State Government has trained some youths and women in fashion designing through a three-day skill acquisition programme for residents in the Lekki Free Zone resettlement communities.

The Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Mrs Lola Akande, said this at the close of the training tagged, “Sewing for Export and International Standard.”

Akande, who spoke through the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Adetutu Ososanya, said the programme was aimed at helping trainees acquire appropriate skills and practical knowledge for modern fashion business.

She said, “It will help to build essential creative and practical design skills, a professional network, and explore unique identities as they prepare to make their mark in the global fashion industry. The proximity to the Lekki Free Zone and the Lekki Deep Sea Port is already an advantage to them as they get set to produce for export using the window of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, AfCFTA.”

She said the programme would ignite the potential of the fashion sector, and encourage  youth and women in the Lekki Free Zone.
