Defective /Distressed Buildings: LASG Opens Resettlement Camp

As part of the efforts of the Lagos State Government in providing succor to victims of various emergency/disasters as well as to mitigate its impact, the Lagos State Government has reiterated its readiness to accommodate the affected residents of the ongoing demolished defective/distressed buildings on Lagos Island to the Lagos State Relief/Resettlement Centre Igando, in Alimosho Local Government Area of the State.

A statement by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA on a media tour of the Resettlement Centre in Igando on Sunday by the Commissioner, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Honorable Kehinde Bamigbetan stated that the State Government is working in line with international best practices as it begins the resettling of persons displaced by the on-going demolitions of defective/distressed buildings in Lagos Island Area of the State.

The Commissioner, “The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency’s Resettlement Camp/Relief Centre in Igando, which has been approved, is ready to accommodate five hundred displaced persons starting from Tuesday, March 26th 2019”.

Bamigbetan added that the exercise is part of the state government’s efforts to ensure that the effect of losing their homes is mitigated to the barest minimum.

On his part, General Manager Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, AdesinaTiamiyu explained that the camp would be opened for three months after which the government would review the need for an extension.

Tiamiyu also said the camp will be working with the Igando General Hospital in case of referrals, just as he added that the medical team for the camp would arrive on Monday.

The Igando Resettlement Camp/Relief Centre has five hostels with twenty-two rooms each, four double bunk beds and is capable of accommodating eight persons per room.

The Centre also features a kitchen facility, a dining hall, a general hall to be used for recreational activities, a three ward medical facility, a set of ten toilets and bathrooms for each hostel, sets of three bedroom flats for members of staff, facilities for persons living with disabilities, security post among others.
