Many killed as explosion hits crude oil tapping point in Rivers

A large number of fatalities have reportedly been recorded in an explosion that occurred at a crude oil tapping station in a Rivers State community.

The event took place early on Friday at Rumuekpe Village in the state’s Emohua Local Government District.

According to reports, the explosion happened when the engine of one of the buses carrying crude oil that had been “packed in bags” for transportation to a refinery site had begun.

It was claimed that the explosion was sparked by a spark from the car’s battery head.
