Mexican president calls El Chapo sentence inhumane

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador of Mexico has said that the jail conditions given to drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman is inhumane.

On Wednesday El Chapo was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years by a judge in the United States.

Lopez Obrador said at a conference that “a sentence for life in a hostile jail, hard, inhumane and made a life no longer worth living. It’s something very painful”

López Obrador also told reporters that he hoped Guzman’s harsh sentence would lead to less violence in Mexico.

He said “We think that bit by bit the number of criminal incidents will decline, we will continue to create a better society, supported by values, that is not based on accumulating material wealth, money or luxury.”
