The most expensive house in US history just sold for $238 million today. The 24,000 square foot house has 79 floors and is located at 220 Central Park South, Manhattan, New York. It was designed by architects Robert A.M. Stern and constructed by Vornado Realty Trust. The house was purchased by Citadel hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin, CNN reports.
The price of $238 million is the highest amount ever paid for a home in the United States, Miller Samuel Incorporated, a real estate and appraisal firm said. The sale price that came close to this is a East Hampton, New York home that sold in 2014 for $137 million. And in 2013, a Palm Beach, Florida property sold for $129.6 million. A Greenwich, Connecticut building sold for $120 million in 2014. Another Woodside, California apartment sold for $117.5 million in 2013.
The Central Park South apartment rises up in the sky and has an unhindered view of the iconic park.
The buyer, Ken Griffin, is rated to be worth $9.9 billion by Forbes. Known for his philanthropy, Griffin gave out $150 million to his old school in 2014, and reputed to have given almost $700 in donation to various charities.
It is doubtful if there are buildings that would cost up to $100 million when sold in Nigeria, but the African country has come a long way in constructing luxurious edifices in Lagos, Abuja, Port-Harcourt and other major cities across the nation. Many of these could reach $30 million if sold, but they are rarely sold since they are the personal residences of Nigeria’s elite corps.
However, top real estate operators must begin to tabulate how much luxury houses sold cost in Nigeria so as to have statistical references for stakeholders to use as basis for comparisons.
