Just two months ago, NBA star Kawhi Leonard signed a contract with Los Angeles Clippers worth more than $ 100 million.
Now news comes that Leonard’s older sister Kimesha Monae Williams, 35, is being held without bail after being arrested for a casino robbery last month after the death of an 84-year-old woman. .
Leonard, 28, was not charged with any crime, according to a report.
Authorities said Williams and another woman, Candace Tai Townsel, 39, followed the elderly victim in a bath at the Pechanga Resort Casino near Temecula, California, on August 31.
The suspects allegedly broke the woman’s skull by stealing her bag between $ 800 and $ 1,200, said Riverside, California Press-Enterprise. The victim, identified as Afaf Anis Assad, died four days later, according to the report.
“Williams has a violent history and attacked a weak old woman and robbed her,” an investigator wrote in a report, according to the newspaper.
The newspaper told the family on Saturday it received confirmation that Williams was the sister of Leonard, a former San Diego star who joined the Clippers this summer after leading the Toronto Raptors to the NBA championship last season.
Investigators appeared to be aware of the family connection when they did not ask Williams for a link to the prison.
“Williams has a family that is doing well and can pay his $ 1,000,000 bail,” wrote one investigator, according to the newspaper. “I’m not asking Bail to secure Williams’s appearance in court and protect innocent victims.”
Contacted at her Moreno Valley home on Saturday, Williams’ aunt Denise Woodard said she did not know if Leonard had sought out her sister or other family members after her arrest.
“It has nothing to do with it,” Woodard told the newspaper.
Williams has already been convicted of theft and robbery, the newspaper reported.
Temecula is about 58 kilometers north of San Diego.
